Discover the morning animal encounters that make an overnight stay at Longneck Manor in Fredericksburg, Texas, an unforgettable wildlife experience.

What if your wildlife experience didn’t end after an hour-long tour? What if you could spend nearly two hours each morning getting to know giraffes, rhinos, and even a two-toed sloth—with the people who care for them every day?

At Longneck Manor, that’s part of the experience.

Guests have plenty of time up close with the animals and our animal care staff even helps facilitate group photos.

Located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, Longneck Manor offers a distinctive combination of luxury accommodations, extraordinary animal encounters, and meaningful conservation education. Known as the Texas Giraffe Hotel, our AZA-accredited, nonprofit conservation park gives overnight guests something truly special: more time, more personal interaction, and a deeper connection with the animals in our care.

In a recent video, our Executive Director, Heather, takes you behind the scenes to show you exactly what to expect from our morning animal encounters—and why they’re so much more than a typical wildlife tour.

More Time. A More Personal Wildlife Experience.

Our public animal encounters offer approximately 75 minutes with our animal ambassadors. Overnight guests enjoy a more in-depth experience, spending nearly two hours each morning, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with our animal care specialists.

That additional time makes a difference.

Rather than moving through a scripted presentation, guests have the opportunity to slow down, ask questions, learn individual animals’ stories, and observe their unique personalities. These are authentic, guided interactions shaped around animal welfare and the natural rhythms of the animals themselves.

Villa guests enjoy their morning encounters in a small group, while Giraffe Suite guests receive private encounters with their dedicated animal care specialist.

It’s an intimate approach to wildlife tourism that prioritizes meaningful connections over crowds.

Get Up Close With Our Southern White Rhinos

The morning begins with an introduction to one of our three southern white rhinos: Fred, Barney, or Justin.

With guidance from our experienced animal care team, guests learn about rhino behavior, anatomy, care, and the challenges rhinos face in the wild. After reviewing safety protocols, guests have the opportunity to get remarkably close to these incredible animals.

You may feel a rhino’s thick skin, touch his horn, or give him gentle scratches along his side. During one of the mornings, guests also have the opportunity to create rhino skin prints using nontoxic paint—a unique activity that offers a memorable keepsake while keeping animal care at the forefront.

Throughout the experience, our animal care specialists explain the daily work involved in caring for rhinos and why protecting their wild counterparts matters.

These encounters offer more than an extraordinary photo opportunity. They help bring conservation to life.

Step Inside Our Giraffe Barn

Next, guests explore our state-of-the-art giraffe barn, gaining a closer look at the spaces and resources that support our animals’ daily care.

At Longneck Manor, we believe transparency and education go hand in hand. Guests can learn about animal anatomy, nutrition, enrichment, and veterinary care while seeing firsthand how our team supports the health and well-being of the animals.

The highlight for many is time on the catwalk, where you can find yourself nearly eye-to-eye with a giraffe.

There is something remarkable about standing so close to an animal of this size and grace. As you get to know our giraffes, you’ll also discover that each has a distinct personality and story.

It’s an experience that makes Longneck Manor one of the most memorable destinations for anyone searching for the best giraffe experience in Fredericksburg.

Meet Bruno, Our Two-Toed Sloth

On one morning of their stay, overnight guests also have the opportunity to meet Bruno, our two-toed sloth.

Because sloths are nocturnal, we carefully limit his daytime interactions to respect his natural behavior and avoid placing unnecessary demands on him. Depending on the interaction, guests may have the opportunity to feed Bruno while learning about his wild counterparts and the conservation challenges they face.

This encounter reflects an important part of our philosophy: exceptional wildlife experiences should always begin with the needs of the animals.

The opportunity to meet Bruno is reserved for overnight guests, making it another special part of the extended stay experience.

Feed Giraffes—and Get to Know Them

The morning concludes at our giraffe feeding deck, where guests have the opportunity to feed our herd of reticulated giraffes and learn more about the individuals behind those unmistakable spotted coats.

It's the best giraffe experience in Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country.

Our animal care specialists share their stories, personalities, and the details of their daily care, from nutrition and enrichment to veterinary oversight and conservation efforts.

Guests also have the opportunity to create a painting with one of our giraffes, adding a creative and memorable element to the morning.

But the most meaningful takeaway may be what guests learn along the way: the work required to care for these animals and the importance of protecting giraffes in the wild.

Luxury With a Purpose

At Longneck Manor, luxury is about more than beautiful accommodations or a peaceful place to unwind. It’s about having the time and space to connect with wildlife in a meaningful way.

Our overnight guests enjoy the comfort of thoughtfully designed accommodations, the tranquility of the Texas Hill Country, and guided animal encounters that offer a deeper understanding of the natural world.

And every stay has a purpose beyond the experience itself.

Longneck Manor is an AZA-accredited, 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation park. Through the Longneck Manor Conservation Foundation, our mission extends beyond our property to support wildlife conservation efforts and the organizations working to protect animals and their habitats.

We hope guests leave with wonderful memories, but we also hope they leave with a stronger connection to wildlife and a desire to help protect it.

Because the best wildlife experiences don’t simply bring you closer to animals. They inspire you to care about their future.
